Treats are a way of life when owning a dog. But sometimes we want to venture out past the bland milkbones and offer up something special. You can find a gourmet dog shop that makes specialty items, but they can be quite expensive. So my solution, bake your own cake!

Now as someone who isn’t exactly a savant around the kitchen, I look for recipes to help me in this task. And boy are there some wonderful solutions online from some talented chefs. Below are a few of my favorites.

Spoiled Dog Cake Recipe

Love From the Oven puts together a cake that even gets my mouth watering. Layered high with frosting, it’s topped with some milkbones that act as sprinkles. Inside is a healthy blend of pumpkin, peanut butter, and applesauce.

The instructions seem relatively easy to handle. And the results look spectacular. I’m going to try and put this together when my brother comes in for the holiday with his Labrador.

Mini Dog Birthday Cake

From thealmondeater.com comes this scrumptious looking dessert. Packed with pumpkin, applesauce, and peanut butter, it is sure to be a delight. The use of some vanilla extract and greek yogurt provide a nice tough too. And in a unique move, this cake is topped with cheese.

According to the recipe, this should take around 40 minutes total. And it puts together a delightful treat for your best friend on their big day.

Bacon Peanut Butter Pupcakes

I decided to look for cupcakes. They seem a little easier to make and portion control is a concern. And when I saw a mix of peanut butter and bacon rolled into one, I know I had a winner.

Jess from JessFuel.com has put together quite a unique recipe here. They seem a little simpler than I anticipated but look to produce some amazing results. It’s definitely on the schedule as a future project come holiday season.

What I love best is the candles on top. What a great display that I’m sure the dogs adored. Click here to read about how you can make the Bacon Peanut Butter Pupcakes yourself.
