May 1, 2010Hooray for the Humane Alliance

An awesome organization from my town of Asheville, NC was featured in USA Today this week.

The Humane Alliance is a non-profit group of vets and other professionals who are saving thousands of lives by performing efficient, inexpensive sterilization procedures — and training others around the country to do the same. According to the USA Today article, last year alone HA spayed or neutered more than 23,000 animals in western North Carolina alone. TWENTY-THREE THOUSAND. That’s a lot of adoptable lives potentially saved from euthanasia. HA is so good at what they do that they’ve been trusted with millions in grants from organizations like PetSmart and the ASPCA.

January 7, 2010And Now It’s Time to Play… “What’s that Toy?”

We checked out our local dog park for the first time this past weekend (having just relocated to a new city), and there on the (frozen) ground, lying amongst the bisected tennis balls and rotting rope bones, was the remnants of something that looked kind of like a rubber snake. I did some sleuthing, and it turns out it was Ruff Dawg’s Super Tug. Looks like a pretty cool toy.

As for Ruff Dawg’s claims that their toys are “virtually indestructible,” I think that boast still holds water. After all, when it comes to the life expectancy of toys, a dog park is a veritable war zone.

Hey, y’all! We’re heading into the hills – or the mountains, really. Our little family is in the process of moving from Raleigh, NC to beautiful Asheville, NC, so I’ve got to take a little break from sniffin’ out cool doggy stuff so we can get packed, moved, and unpacked.
