Today’s post will probably come as a shock to the grand majority of you, which is kind of a cruel joke for me to play, as I’ve thought (read: tortured myself) about it for a really long time. As of today, phetched is going on indefinite hiatus. What does that mean? Well, I don’t exactly know. It may just be a break for the summer. It may be a break for forever. I’m just not sure.
The truth is, I’ve been writing this blog for a little over two years now (anywhere from 5 to 7 days a week), and as much fun as it’s been, I’m itching to try something new. Inspiration’s knocking, and I need the freedom to see where she takes me. I want to hike mountain trails with my dogs and explore my city. I want to take more pictures. I want to finish decorating my house. I want to write about the other things that interest me, like fashion and music and art and feelings. Maybe I’ll open an Etsy shop. Maybe I’ll write a book of mildly autobiographical short stories. Maybe I’ll learn to play mandolin and record a rootsy reinterpretation of The Fame Monster. I’m not really sure what I’m going to do just yet, but I’m pretty excited about the question mark.
Regarding you, dear readers, I need better words, but these will have to suffice: Thank you. Thank you for tuning in every day, for making me laugh, for sharing your love of dogs with me, for getting it. I started this blog for completely personal reasons, as a way to rediscover my voice and feel creative again. But knowing someone was out there reading it, enjoying it, sharing it? That just fills me up to bursting. Thank you.
In all honesty, though, I’m not going too, too far. Starting in a couple weeks or so, you’ll find me over at Dog Milk (a super awesome modern dog blog that you guys probably visit every day already — and if you don’t, why the heeze NOT??) as a weekly contributor. I’m super stoked to be joining the Dog Milk team, as it’s a fabulously fun site and they are all way cooler/prettier/nicer than I could ever claim to be. Please, please, PLEASE bring your eyes and your love and your comments over to Dog Milk, and let’s reconnect there. (And so you’ll be the first to know when I grace this space again, become an email subscriber using the link to the upper right.)
Peace, tail wags, and high fives –
Katherine (with Mingus and Dottie)
P.S. That shot above was the best we could do.

Hi Katherine, Mingus and Dottie! I’m a brazilian reader and like Georgia I have been enjoying this blog every day since I found it, but haven’t commented yet. It’s fabulous and I’m very sorry it’s finishing, but I’m glad for you. Everybody deserves to explore and discovery yourself, your life. Have fun and be happy always. That’s really matter in this life. (Sorry about my English, hope you can understand what I mean =)

I LOVE YOUR BLOG! Your writing is always thoroughly enjoyable. I will be sad to see you go, but hope you enjoy your new journey. The review you did on my collars is still my absolute favorite. Thank you for providing dog lovers with this site for the time you did it. P.S. I like dog milk but your site is so much cooler and cleaner looking, not too busy.

Oh my gosh, first Oprah and Mary Hart and now you! Don’t go!

Thankyou so much for your wonderful blog Katherine – you seriously are one of the funniest bloggers out there and a dog lover to boot.
I’m so glad we get to follow you over on Dog Milk. Congrats on the new gig and can’t wait to see you on there!! xo -
Late to the party as usual. It’s a wonder I even know what’s going on in the world with how late I usually am in hearing the latest news.
Katherine, your wonderful and inspiring blog has been a fount of creative and positive energy that I have had to draw on many a time to get through various blog slumps. You always found the freshest, most unique items and always had the funniest things to say about it. I’m going to miss your posts here terribly, but I’m glad you aren’t disappearing into that scary place called the real world (there’s a world outside of the internet? I thought that was a myth!!) completely. Good luck in your adventures. Give Mingus and Dottie a smooch for me.
Oh and Prudence says she’ll miss you too but she’ll always be able to woof at you on twitter. I’m a little jealous
