Browsing through painter Brian Rubenacker’s work is like stepping into a storybook, all at once whimsical, slightly surreal, allegorical, humorous, and heartbreaking. Pugs with pipes, terriers in tiaras, beatnik Doxies with smirky sideways glances, and Boston terriers — oh, the Boston terriers! — thieving treats, stumbling zombie-like through a graveyard, serving afternoon tea to a Kong and a Cuz — all have their stories to tell in Rubenacker’s delightful paintings. And while his imaginative canine characters are surprising and unconventional, you get the sneaking feeling you’ve met these dogs before.

I’m going to say that this is some of the coolest pup art I’ve seen. I love the weimaraner in the suit.
