We have quite a bit of dog hair around our house. (Perhaps I’ve mentioned it before.) As a result, our Dyson gets quite a workout, and I must say I’m impressed with how good a job it does. (I’m getting a little annoyed with Dyson’s commercials, though. What’s Mr. Dyson’s deal, exactly? It’s a vacuum cleaner, guy. The overlord tone is getting old.)

Anyway, Dysons truly are champs at handling dog hair, and now Dyson’s come out with something designed to address the hair problem at its source — that is, while it’s still on your dog. The Dyson Groom is a new tool (vacuum cleaner not included, of course) that you use to literally vacuum your dog. The Dyson Groom sucks the loose hair right off Fido before it has a chance to fly about and land on your floor, your furniture, or your children and friends.

Now, lest you laugh, I have friends who vacuum their dogs (with their standard vacuum attachments), and reportedly (a) it works and (b) the dogs love it. In the case of the Groom, though, $69.99 will buy you that super-special Dyson engineering — including slicker bristles that gently pull and smooth the hair, a spring-loaded trigger and storage mode, one-handed thumb control, and a self-cleaning mechanism.

Depending on your dog’s feelings about the vaccuum cleaner, it may or may not resemble a medieval torture device.

You can learn more about the Dyson Groom at Dyson’s website.

OK, y’all. I need some serious group therapy time here, ’cause I know I’m not alone in this. I try and I try and I try, but I can NOT keep my house clean. And it goes beyond the dog hair. It’s dirt. It’s grime. It’s little tiny pieces of shredded toys. It’s little muddy paw prints ALL OVER THE FLOOR I JUST MOPPED. I give up. I can either have dogs, or things can be clean. These are mutually exclusive states of being.

What’s that? Reeeeally?? Your houses are dirt- and hair-ridden tooooooo? Aww, thanks guys. That makes me feel a lot better. **hugs**

But seriously. I’m not giving in. I will keep up the fight. And I just might succeed with the new PawSafe line of home cleaning products from Simple Solution.

PawSafe cleaners are biodegradable and non-toxic, and their natural, plant-based ingredients leave behind no chemical residue, so they’re safe for pets (and kids)… but still tough on grease and grime. There’s even a toy cleaner for safely cleaning your pooch’s prized possessions.

Guess I better head here to print out an online coupon and get crackin’ on this pigsty.

Let’s be honest here — or, as my 5th-grade teacher used to say, let’s get down to brass tacks. Having a dog isn’t always roses and candy canes. There’s their knack for puking *first thing* in the morning, a sound that will propel you out of bed with the force and speed of a pack of 12-year-old girls at a Justin Bieber sighting. And then, of course, there’s the standing in torrential downpours waiting for them to do their biznezz. And then, of course, there’s the biznezz. Yep, we’re talkin’ poop.

I saw Poop-Freeze on Daily Candy yesterday and considered it my doggy-blogging duty to share it with you. Poop-Freeze (with the slogan “Just frost and toss”) magically turns liquified poo (ugh) solid (ugh) for easy disposal (ugh).

You’re welcome.

You can fetch Poop-Freeze (which contains no CFCs) from Healthypets.com. And check this link to see all 12 of Daily Candy’s “Dog Accessories Worth Barking For” (featuring phetched favorites Get Lick’d, Scutte, and Doca Pet)

Let me tell you something about living in North Carolina. Last Tuesday, we got six inches of snow. Monday it was in the mid-60s. Our backyard right now? Pretty much a giant mud pit à la Woodstock ’94. Every trip out for the pups culminates with a laborious paw-wiping debacle. It’s enjoyable, let me tell you.

As much as I love our old-bath-towel-caked-with-mud routine, I’m wondering if something like these UGroom pet drying gloves would work better. They’re made of super-absorbent microfiber, can be rinsed clean with warm water, and are fast-drying.

‘Cause otherwise I’m ordering some wellies for the pups before April showers set in.

Has anyone out there tried these? Are they the answer to my prayers?

UGroom’s drying gloves are only $9.99 (but sold out!) at PupLife, but I also found them over at Doggie Depot.

The day we adopted Dottie, we took her and Mingus to a baseball field to run around and play to make sure they could get along. It had recently rained, and there was a giant red-mud puddle in the middle of the field. In what should have been a flashing red-flag warning sign to us, Dottie got a MAJOR case of the zoomies… and ran about 10 times through the middle of that puddle.

We needed pretty much every one of these products that day.

Zoomies shampoo, hand soap, all-purpose cleaner, and stain and odor remover contain no solvents, sulfates, glycols, phthalates, or pesticides, and they’re biodegradable and non-toxic.

Plus they have cute, colorful labels.

Fetch them all at Zoomies’ web site.

Got a dirty dawg, but don’t like using harsh, harmful products? SeaYu offers a line of eco-friendly stain and odor removers that promise to be tough on dirt and stink but easy on the environment.

SeaYu’s CLEAN+GREEN products are biodegradable and contain all natural ingredients (including cane sugar derivatives, botanical extracts, and hydrated cellulose) but are free of perfumes and fragrances that do little more than mask stanky odors. SeaYu’s patented encapsulation method of stain removal is delivered via ozone-safe aerosol and is supposedly even more effective than enzymatic cleaning agents. (I typed all of that as if I understood exactly what it all means.)

Basically, it gets the stink out, but doesn’t leave yucky unsafe chemical stuff behind.

Fetch it at PetSmart or online. (Formulas available for cats and other small animals, too.)

Bamboo Pet kind of ticked me off a while back with their extremely environmentally unfriendly Feed + Toss product, but they have definitely redeemed themselves with their Toy Cleaning Brush.

Nevermore do I wrestle with peanut butter cemented to the nooks and crannies of Ming and Dottie’s Kongs… the brush removes it with ease and minimal to no cursing.

Fetch one at pet-supply stores nationwide. (We got ours at Pet Supplies Plus, but it’s also available at DogToys.com.)

If you have a dog, chances are you already have a bottle of Nature’s Miracle in your house. Like a collar and leash, it’s practically essential to dog ownership.

It permanently eliminates stains and odors (from pee to puke to poo) without harsh chemicals, making it safe for pets and children, leaving behind only a slight citrus scent. They call it “enzymes,” but I call it bloody magic.

Learn all about it at naturemakesitwork.com. Buy it at any major pet-supply retailer.
