Pretty much my favorite commercials in the history of the world are those of the new Old Spice campaign — those and that new one where the lime is talking on top of the taco.

The Old Spice Guy, the manliest man in the world, is, of course, former Seattle Seahawk Isaiah Mustafa. Dog Tipper recently spotted Mustafa and his Rhodesian Ridgeback Lexi at a dog event in LA and snapped these great photos. So not only is he the Man Your Man Could Smell Like, but he owns one of my favorite breeds? Fantastic.

Awesome awesomeness from The Guardian: stunning photos collected by photographers of Kanellos, a street dog that has [update: supposedly] made an appearance at nearly every protest in Athens for the past two years, no matter how violent.

See and read more at The Guardian.

We didn’t get to watch the Westminster Kennel Club dog show this past week, but we here at phetched would be remiss in not offering congratulations and high-fives to Sadie, the Best in Show winner, the big kahuna of the whole shebang.

Sadie’s full name is Ch. Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, which is quite a beautiful name but way too long to fit neatly on a collar tag. Mingus and Dottie are 100% certified mutts, so they don’t have fancy registry names. If they did, Mingus’ might be something like “Professor Bad Attitude Skinnylegs von Mingus,” while Dottie, on the other hand, might be registered as “Dorothy Notahusky Dirt Eater PLEASEFORTHELOVEOFGODSTOPBARKING.”

How ’bout your pups? Any fancy registry names out there?

Weezer’s new album, set to release next month, is named Raditude. If you’re OK with that, then you’ll probably love its awesome cover image:

The photo by Jason Neely of Middletown, CT, of his dog, Sidney, was a winning entry in a National Geographic reader photo contest. According to Spinner, when Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo contacted Neely about using the photo for the album, Neely divulged that Sidney is, in fact, quite the Weezer fan.

Raditude is scheduled for release on October 27th. Jason Neely has a flickr.

Remember this little guy? I miss this little guy.

Another classic:

Pets.com, despite its hilarious and popular advertising campaign, went bust less than 2 years after it began operations, one of the notable failures of the dot-com bust, proving that, indeed, what goes up must come down.

Interestingly, the pets.com domain is now owned by PetSmart.

Happy Saturday!

(If you’re in the Triangle, NC area, don’t forget that Untethered premieres tonight at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham!)

A friend of mine shared this video with me. I wish it could be seen by everyone who’s ever uttered the phrase, “Aw, it’s just a dog.”

It’s a little longish, but I guarantee it’s worth your while. If this doesn’t choke you up at all, just a little teeny bit, leave a comment and let us know what it’s like to be made of stone. I personally start to lose it around 6:13.

Sadly, Skidboot passed on in March of 2007.

So unless you’ve been living in a cave somewhere, you know that the Obama family has welcomed a six-month-old Portuguese water dog, Bo, to the White House.

I love these photos from the White House blog. It looks like the whole family, even the Prez, is smitten with the new addition.

I wonder if Bo will get his own home page, just like Barney.
