I was real late feeding the pups last night ’cause I got all caught up looking at Li Ward’s blog.

Li, the creative force behind Fat Orange Cat Studio, is a pet and wedding photographer in “Boston and beyond.” Go check out her site and blog – SO much good stuff. (I warn you, though, there are French bulldog puppies, and THEY WILL SUCK YOU IN.)

I’ve had puppy fever lately. I’m not exactly sure where it came from, but I need to get over it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love puppies… but I also like sleeping through the night and leaving my home in (relative) confidence that it will be the same way I left it when I return.

Maybe if I could just smell a puppy’s head for like 35 seconds that would appease me. And then maybe I need a cute little Pedigree Pal.

Pedigree Pals are plush, squeaky, and available at Pup Life.

Cute pups, huh?

All of them live in my area, and all of them are looking for forever homes through Petfinder.

October is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, and if you’re looking to add a dog to your family, Petfinder is an unbelievably awesome resource, with photos and information for over 300,000 pets looking for an adoptive family. Petfinder allows you to easily search adoptable dogs by breed, sex, location, or size, and contains bios and photos of the dogs-in-waiting that include information on the pups’ personalities and needs. Petfinder also offers a wealth of resources for families adopting, including information on dog breeds and types, dog care, dog training, and dog health.

When we adopted our Dottie in 2008, we first found her through our local shelter’s listing on Petfinder. Petfinder then allowed us to keep track of her between the shelter, a foster home, 2 cities, and about 175 miles before we were finally able to bring her home. I’ve known friends thinking of adopting a dog who refer to Petfinder as “puppy porn” — and trust me, it’s OK to look. Go ahead.

If you’re not able to adopt right now, Petfinder has published a list of things you can do to help pups in need find forever homes.

You can always spot the people who have new puppies at home. Bags hang under their bloodshot eyes. Fresh battle wounds decorate their arms and hands. They smile feebly and admit, “Well, he’s really cute.”

Seriously, folks… God made puppies cute so that we would allow them to survive to adulthood.

Behold the long-legged latex monkey, the perfect playmate for your little bundle of terror joy.

His floppy, rubber-skinned and polyfill-stuffed appendages are much more fun to bite than yours, his loud squeak more entertaining than your accusatory shrieks.

You’ll feel like he’s part of the family.

Fetch him at Muttropolis.
