Y’all remember that Black Eyed Peas song from a few years ago, “Where Is the Love”? Yeah? Well, I hate that song. I want to strangle that song with my bare hands. No offense.

But I’m all about spreading the love – as is Hug Me Up, a company “based on the simple philosophy that no matter who you are, how old you are, or what is happening in your life, sometimes one simple gesture can make all the difference in the world and say all we need to say.” Since dogs, to me, are all about spreading, too, I think it’s super fitting that Hug Me Up offers a line of doggie tank tops and bandanas. I also love the fact that Hug Me Up is based right here in beautiful North Carolina, just like yours truly.

And guess what’s cool? Hug Me Up gives $1 from the sale of every “Life’s Ruff” shirt (pictured above) to the Best Friends Animal Society.

You can fetch doggie bandanas and tees featuring all kinds of cute sayings at Hug Me Up’s website.

Happy Labor Day, American pups and peeps! Did you know that the first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City in 1882, and Congress eventually made Labor Day a national holiday as a sort of reconciliation with the labor movement? That’s all from Wikipedia. I don’t really know much about the history of Labor Day, because to me Labor Day (or at least Labor Day weekend) is a national holiday celebrating the official start of college football. Can I get an amen? And the official start of college football means that regular season NFL games are right around the corner. It’s a glorious time.

So, is your pooch ready? As we all know, dogs care a lot about football, and about all sports, for that matter. You can get your pup outfitted in your favorite college or pro team’s gear thanks to Doggie Nation, which offers officially licensed gear for pups for dozens of NFL and college teams.

Fetch football jerseys, leashes, collars, bandanas, bowls, toys, caps, and more for your little fan at Doggie Nation.

Can we talk about a little problem we’re having here? It’s not pretty. Mingus has apparently decided he now has to poop twice on every walk. Is it his food? Is it a seasonal thing? Has he simply found yet another way to be jerky? It’s hard to tell. But the sad truth is we go through a lot of poop bags these days.

How about a spiffy little walking vest that would allow him to carry his own poop bags, both empty and, er, used? Excellent idea.

Tree Parlor, a wonderful little Etsy shop based just down the road from me in Greenville, SC, features Saddle Wags™, awesome little walking vests and jackets (many made from upcycled clothing) with expandable pockets for carrying poop bags, cell phones, house keys, or whatever else you might need on your walk. Tree Parlor also offers some cute but classy winter coats for when this heat (finally) passes on.

There’s just so much to love about Dublin Dog collars. They’re carefully handcrafted from durable, recyclable polymers, making them 100% waterproof and impervious to odor-causing bacteria. Dublin Dog also runs a Re-Cycle, Re-Gift, Re-Focus program that allows customers to help outfit needy dogs with gently-used collars and also recycle Dublin Dog collars when they’re ready for a new one.

I also like the fact that their wicked-cool patterns are named for some of my favorite things, like Ginger Snap, Black-Eyed Susan, Cotton Candy, and Merlot.

So, is this officially, like, the shortest summer ever, or what? I mean, it’s going to be broiling at best here in the South for at least another month, but kids go back to school, what, like next week? Duuude, I bet they are BUMMED.

Your pup can rock summer style all year long thanks to Island Dog Gear’s leashes, collars, and accessories inspired by Hawaiian beach style. My personal favorite? The portable Bowl-to-Go, available in happy funtime summertime colors.

Well, it’s Monday. And it’s not just any old raggedy Monday… it’s the first of, like, 200 Mondays before the World Cup comes back again. Sad Katherine. But there’s a lot of summer left to be enjoyed, including lots of walks and hikes with my sled team Mingus and Dottie. I’ve said it before: I have to have a good, quality leather leash for a walk. Nothing else will do.

I love the handmade, classy yet utilitarian leashes from Bold Lead Designs. I can almost smell and feel that leather in my hands. (True story: I have some friends whose dog is afraid of new leather shoes. Dogs are weird.)

In addition to multifunctional leashes, service dog aids, and training tools like traffic leads, Bold Lead also offers a selection of beautiful leather collars and cool People Training Scarves.

Fetch them in Bold Lead’s Etsy shop (currently offering free shipping in the US).

As I’ve said before, it doesn’t take much to make me happy… a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, someone liking my status on Facebook, or maybe an “America’s Next Top Model” marathon on a rainy Saturday. So imagine my unbridled joy a couple of weeks ago when I got an email telling me I’d won, via the Dogster blog and The Daily Tail, an awesome new Cheengoo collar. Huzzah! If I had a vuvuzela, I’d have blown it. (And for anyone who thinks I won just because I have a dog blog, stand down… I used an alternate email address. I’m tricksy!)

Here’s Mingus modeling his new Cheengoo collar. You’d think he’s cocking his head to the side like that so as to give the camera a great view of the collar, but really he’s just being his typically jersky self and making it impossible for me to get a good picture of him.

Cheengoo collars, leads, and harness are handmade in San Francisco in cute-but-not-too-cutesy designs. The collars feature quick-release buckles (my favorite) in durable plastic or classy engraved metal.

You can fetch Cheengoo goods on their website or at The Daily Tail. (And for those lucky enough to live in San Fran, Cheengoo has a brick-and-mortar store on Union Street).

Lisa currently has silkscreen designs for around 50 dog breeds, meaning she could wear a different dog, like, almost every Monday. You know, if she wanted to.
